El Gobierno Provincial Autónomo de El Oro (The Autonomous Provincial Government of El Oro), el Gobierno Provincial de Loja (The Provincial Government of Loja), Municipio del Cantón Las Lajas – El Oro (Municipality of Las Lajas in El Oro), and Municipio del Cantón Puyango – Loja (Municipality of Puyango in Loja; all of them together have signed a Commonwealth Agreement for the administration of the Protector Forest “Puyango Petrified Forest” by replacing the former Administrative Committee that managed this natural resource during 17 years with some positive results such as the declaration of Protector Forest and Natural Heritage Paleontological Treasure. The main commitments of the commonwealth are the scientific research, tourist promotion, and sustainable management of the forest.
