Hydrography

The international border between Ecuador and Peru is located several kilometers down the Puyango River stream, as well as the Petrified Forest that will be next to the huge water mirror of the Cazaderos Dam, which will be built by the Peruvian Subcommittee for making use of the Puyango River’s water in the Binational Project Puyango- Tumbez.
The Puyango River’s inflowing water in the forest area comes from:
-
On the left bank the Cochurco, Lemon, and Chirimoyo Brooks and one unnamed brook.
- On the right bank: El Inca, Tigre, Las Palmas, and Sábalos Brooks.
In addition, the Puyango River works as an inter-provincial border, for this reason the inflowing rivers on the right bank belong to El Oro Province, and the ones on the left bank to Loja Province.
